《无间战神》是款以北欧神话为基础所改编的科幻史诗级动作角色扮演游戏，以遥远的过去为背景，叙述机械神只巴尔达（Baldur）为了保护人类而投入战斗的历程。《非凡战士》游戏类型为动作冒险，是该系列三部曲的第一部，本作虽然看似处于未来的高科技社会，但是故事背景确实以神话故事为主。游戏讲述了神与神之间的战争，玩家将是一位不属于任何神族的人类战士，为了让人类避免灭绝的危机，要在这场浩大的战役中努力的生存下去，并探究这一事件的真相。在战斗中玩家将要面对比自己强大许多的怪物，并且这些怪物会大批出现，如果依靠蛮力杀出去的话必死无疑。本作中也是十分考验玩家的战术意识以及对操作的熟练程度。
